COAT OF ARMS OF THE PROVINCIAL GRAND LODGE OF PIRAEUS AND ISLANDS OF THE AEGEAN ARCHIPELAGO
Poseidon, the god of the sea, symbolises strength, authority, and the ability to command the natural elements. He is associated with the quest for the mysteries of the world and understanding the deeper laws of nature. Wielding the trident (three-pronged spear), he reigns supreme over the waters.
The Square is an ancient architectural tool used to perfect and shape rough matter. For Freemasons, it serves as a symbolic guide, helping individuals examine and refine themselves throughout their lives.
The Compass, another ancient architectural instrument, inscribes the circle. According to the ancient philosopher Pythagoras, the perfect circle is a divine symbol representing perfection, eternity, and the infinite cyclic nature of life. The circle, having neither beginning nor end, symbolises the union of the spiritual and material worlds and the unity of the cosmos.
The Coat of Arms of the Province of Piraeus and the Islands of the Aegean Archipelago blends mythology with Freemasonry. The mythical god, encompassed by the Square and Compass, is paralleled with the mythical architect Hiram, representing the pursuit of truth and perfection through dedicated labour in building the inner temple.
The Province of Piraeus and the Islands of the Aegean Archipelago, as the oldest province of the National Grand Lodge of Greece (NGLG), has played a pivotal role in the development and operation of the fraternity since its establishment. With three founding lodges and a continuous contribution to upholding its values and principles, it remains a cornerstone for the preservation and promotion of the brotherhood.
Masonic Lodges are spiritual workshops, and the primary responsibility of each Provincial Grand Master is to ensure the smooth and uninterrupted functioning of those within his jurisdiction while implementing the vision of the Grand Master.
The dynamically expanding Province of Piraeus and the Islands of the Aegean Archipelago encompasses a vast geographical area, with a total of 17 symbolic Masonic lodges spread across its jurisdiction. These include one English-speaking and one German-speaking lodge, as well as a research lodge and a lodge with a specialised purpose.
This diversity of lodges and the plurality of working rituals offer our members opportunities to engage with multiple aspects of the Masonic art.
Additionally, the fully renovated and modern Masonic Hall of Piraeus hosts numerous lodges affiliated with the National Grand Lodge and its appendant Masonic bodies.
With respect, I warmly welcome you to this digital space on behalf of the Province of Piraeus and the Islands of the Aegean Archipelago, where Masonic values meet the modern era.
With fraternal regards,
The Provincial Grand Master Province of Piraeus & The Islands of the Aegean Archipelago
